As you are beginning to prep for the fall semester and thinking about doing something new? Consider engaging students through alternatives to written assignments. Assignments that incorporate technology can create personally meaningful learning opportunities.
Presentations are commonly assigned to students. But what if you have over 20 students – how will you ever get through 20+ individual presentations? Consider asking your students to tap into their creativity and produce an animated presentation to demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and analyzation of course concepts and ideas. Or ask your students to tell his or her story about what they have learned – through personal tales to the recounting of historical events, from exploring life in one’s own community to the search for life in other corners of the universe – through digital storytelling.
One tool students can use for both of these assignments is called PowToon (I know – funny name…). It allows students to create simple animated videos and it is also pretty simple to use.
